The Professional Standards Councils will soon be launching a Research Library on modern professionalism on its website. The library is the culmination of a 3-year partnership between the Councils and Australian Research Council (ARC) Linkage project led by the University of New South Wales (UNSW) about professions, professional conduct, education and regulation in the 21st century.
The Research Library will feature more than 40 subject overviews focussing on regulatory and practical mechanisms designed to advance professional standards and pathways and structures for the professionalisation of occupations.
It will act as a source of encouragement and guidance to all occupational professions who have undertaken to improve standards and offer greater value and protections to Australian consumers of professional services.
The subject overviews explore the practices, beliefs and expectations of professions in 7 focus areas.
These are:
- Professions
- Ethics and Conduct
- Regulation and Governance
- Risk
- Professional Qualifications
- Certification and
- Ongoing Education.
Each subject overview will include links to further resources and will be downloadable for future distribution.
The subject overviews, links and resources are the result of collaboration between the Professional Standards Authority and leading academics from the UNSW Centre for Law, Markets and Regulation (CMLR) and their research partners, Corrs Chambers Westgarth, University of Technology Sydney (UTS), Griffith University, Allens, and the University of Melbourne.

The Research Library on modern professionalism is now in its final stages of development and will be launched on 7 December 2018.
