New Chief Executive Officer appointed

The Professional Standards Councils announce the appointment of new Chief Executive Officer.

The Professional Standards Councils have announced the appointment of Mr Andreas Heger as Chief Executive Officer. Mr Heger will lead the Professional Standards Authority from Monday 9 February 2026.

Mr Heger brings extensive experience in professional standards regulation, government, policy, strategy, and law reform to the Councils. His most recent role was as Executive Director of the NSW Bar Association, where he oversaw the administration of the Association’s professional standards scheme.

Mr Heger has also worked at the NSW Department of Communities & Justice, the Council of Australian Governments Standing Council on Law & Justice and the Department of Prime Minister & Cabinet.

Mr Heger’s unique combination of experience in government and law, and as the former head of an occupational association with a professional standards scheme, brings a unique perspective to the CEO role.

The Councils are delighted to welcome Mr Heger.

Thank you to acting CEO

The Councils would also like to thank Darren Holder for acting as CEO since August 2024. Mr Holder’s appointment was extended well beyond what was initially contemplated, and the Councils thank him for effectively leading the Authority during an extremely busy period of statutory decision-making for the Councils.
