The monograph Constructing Building Integrity: Raising Standards Through Professionalism has been published as the final academic output of the Australian Research Council Linkage Project.
The Professional Standards Councils were a lead partner organisation in the Linkage Project which studied the role of professions in rebuilding trust in residential building construction in Australia.
Edited by Katja Cooper, Hugh Breakey, Charles Sampford, Peter Gow and Keith Hampson, the monograph draws on contributions from academics and industry experts to explore how cross-professional interactions, regulation, public accountability, and integrity systems can be strengthened to raise professional standards and improve consumer outcomes.
The Councils’ Chair, Mr John Vines OAM, and the Authority’s Senior Research and Resource Officer, Dr Sancia West, co‑authored a chapter titled ‘Professionalisation and the Role of Meta‑Regulation’. The chapter examines how professionalisation, supported by professional standards schemes and meta‑regulatory oversight, can help lift standards and improve integrity within the building and construction sector.
