PSA Summer Clerkship Program 2018-2019

The Professional Standards Authority (PSA) is pleased to participate in the annual Summer Clerkship Program of the NSW Law Society. We expect to offer positions in 2018/2019 so if you're a student in your penultimate year, spend part of your vacation with us and you’ll get a great understanding of how we go about meeting the needs of our clients. 

These positions provide a unique opportunity to be involved in government regulatory practice. You will have hands-on involvement in schemes work and a range of projects. Some of the tasks you may be expected to complete are:

  • Legal research projects
  • Preparation of briefs
  • Provide case reviews and summaries
  • Provide legislative interpretation

A summer clerkship with the PSA is suited to students who enjoy working in a fast paced and dynamic workplace, have excelled in a variety of academic and non-academic fields, and are interested in pursuing a career in government regulation or public policy.

Your Application

You must comply with the Law Society’s eligibility and how to apply guidelines. Please submit your application via email at Please note that in line with the Law Society’s eligibility requirements, it is expected that applicants will be in their penultimate or final year of their law degree.

You are encouraged to complete the application form prepared by the Law Society. Your application should:

  • include a covering letter addressing all the selection criteria
  • include a CV and an academic transcript, and
  • contact details for at least two referees.

The selection criteria used to assess applications is:

  1. Interest in, and an understanding of, the work of the PSA
  2. Experience, gained through paid or voluntary work and extracurricular activities, that would enable you to contribute to the work of the PSA
  3. Good communication and interpersonal skills
  4. Strong academic record
  5. Strong analytical skills

In your application, please explain how you meet this criterion, providing examples where possible. This must be no longer than 5 pages, including your CV. Your academic transcript is not counted toward this total.

The Interview

Positions will be recruited based on merit selection. To ensure that this process is equitable, interviews are formal, with each interviewee being asked the same set of questions. Interviewees may also be asked to prepare a written response to a hypothetical problem.
